Executive Committee Meeting Minutes

The Castle House, 06/14/2017, 5:30 pm-7:00 pm

ATTENDING: Nancy Blackwood, Beanne Rothenberg, Lori Schuyler, Scott Thomas, Stephen Clark, Andrea Clark

INVITED GUESTS: Michael Brown (Serac Adventure Films & Lincoln Street Neighbor), Jan Burton (City Council member) and Susan Stafford (Director, CU Off-Campus Housing and Neighborhood Relations)

CHAUTAUQUA “PARK TO PARK” SHUTTLE PILOT PROGRAM: Shuttle bus pilot program to alleviate traffic/parking congestion at Chautauqua on weekends. Goal is to get folks out of their cars and onto shuttle buses at the downtown bus station, Regent Parking Lot (CU) and New Vista High School Parking Lot at Baseline and Broadway. The buses travelling up and down 9th Street to/from Chautauqua are creating serious disruptions to the 9th Street (and beyond) residents. The buses: 1) are constant (every 7.5 minutes one travels up or down the street), 2) exceed the speed limit, 3) are extremely loud and 4) are basically running empty. Jan Burton said she has received a number of emails and offered to look into it.

CONCERNS OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD:

1) We are losing families in our neighborhood at a very rapid rate. Families are moving out and investors are purchasing homes for student rentals.Families can’t compete with the value of single family houses to investor/rentals.We need to address this head on.Suggestion was made to explore potential solutions with the CU Foundation, Community Foundation and groups such as Boulder Housing Partners. We will follow up with Jan Burton and Andrew Shoemaker to set the wheels in motion.

CU BACK TO SCHOOL WELCOME BAGS - UPDATE: Discussed logistics of Welcome Bag distribution (Lori and the Clarks offered to be the “headquarters” for residents to pick up their bags to distribute), total number of bags (100 requested) and contents (All agreed that the large bottles of soda pop were unmanageable and will be replaced with an alternative drink in smaller containers.). We will coordinate with Susan Stafford and confirm the best “window” for distribution.

COMIC STRIP/COMIC BOOK TO DISTRIBUTE TO STUDENT NEIGHBORS/ NEIGHBORHOOD “SPARK” GRANT: (REFER TO APRIL 2017 MEETING NOTES FOR BACKGROUND)

  1. Comic Strip to be 11 x 17” on glossy card stock.

  2. To be included in the Welcome Bags and also distributed to all student rentals within a certain geographic area (TBD upon review of the CoB Rental Map). Susan noted that volunteers from her office could help with the door hanger distribution.

  3. Discussed the content of the Comic Strip. EC to follow up with research and generate ideas for the strip.

  4. Cartoonist: Nancy to follow up with Drew Litton, cartoonist for the Boulder Daily Camera and report back to EC.

  5. Spark Grant Update (Beanne): Beanne reported on her progress with the Spark Grant application for $1,000. She sent out the Draft Text for the Application and the Budget Spreadsheet outlining the Volunteer In-Kind Donations (approximately $2,000) and the Hard Expenses (approximately $1,000). We provided preliminary input to Beanne and agreed to review and send comments to her electronically.

  6. Timing for the application: Need to submit ASAP in order to obtain approval in July so we can complete comic strip before CU starts.

HILL REINVESTMENT WORKING GROUP/Residential Service District: Lori-reported the meeting was cancelled this past month.
