From the Uni Hill School Future Team

Attached (click here to view) is the 20 January 2017 Memo to the Boulder Valley Board of Education from the CITIZEN’S BOND OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE that encourages BVSD to conduct a public process around the potential sale of Uni Hill Elementary school campus to CU. Please take a few minutes to read this and the below email from the Uni Hill School Future Team.

_________

Many people have asked what they can do to increase the visibility of BVSD’s proposal for the possible sale of Uni Hill Elementary and how they can express their concerns before the decision is made (including the impact on the students, the neighbors, and the historic landmark itself)..

If you are available to make a brief statement at the Board of Education meeting this Tuesday, January 24th, at 6 pm…. Please sign up by calling the Board secretary at 720-561-5114 prior to the meeting. You may also sign up between 5:30 and 6:00 pm on Tuesday. If you do not sign up in advance, you will not be allowed to address the Board. Details about public participation are here. The meeting is at the Ed Center, 6500 Arapahoe, in the Board Room. (The general website for the school board is: bvsd.org/boe.)

There were 7 people speaking about Uni Hill Elementary at the Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee (CBOC) meeting on January 18. As a result, CBOC sent a memo to the school board requesting that they seek public input on the Uni Hill issue (see attachment). If you would like to raise questions or state concerns directly to the decision-makers…. You can email the Boulder Valley School Board (bvs.board@bvsd.org) and the Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee. In your communication please mention the unihillschoolfuture.org website.

If you would like to raise public awareness and encourage others to speak up…. Please write a brief letter to the editor at the Daily Camera (click link). Again, in your letter please mention the unihillschoolfuture.org website.

If you have limited time…. You may wish to wait until BVSD announces that they are seeking public input. This will be the most important time to express any concerns, but we expect the time window for this input to be very brief. We will send an email when (if?) BVSD requests public comment.

Ina Rodriguez-Myer, the Uni Hill principal, posted the following feedback to the unihillschoolfuture.org website:

As the principal of University Hill Elementary School, one of my goals is to provide the best possible education for students. Part of doing this requires an appropriate facility. At this point, I am not advocating to stay or sell. What I am asking is for people to request a tour of the building to understand why the possibility of selling the building is an option. Come in and see what we would need to accomplish to bring the best possible facility to our students. BVSD has already investigated this and understands the cost involved in doing so. If BVSD decides not to sell would Uni Hill Neighborhood Association, BNA, and Historic Boulder contribute resources to make this happen?

If you would like to request a tour, call Uni Hill at 720-561-5416. Thank you for your interest in the future of Uni Hill, The Uni Hill School Future Team.
